Meet the Chapter Host: Milwaukee

We love our chapter hosts!

They’re key players in creating the lively discussions around our monthly book selections. We’re so happy to have them as a part of our community!

Each month, we will feature a different chapter host so you can get to know them a little better and maybe get a few more recommendations of books you need to add to your TBR pile!

Lizzy Schmitter, Milwaukee Chapter Host

My name is Lizzy, and I'm the host for the Milwaukee chapter! I'm also in charge of all the graphic design for Literary League.

1. What are your top five favorite books?
My top five favorite books are: Red, White & Royal Blue, The House in the Cerulean Sea, Fifteen Hundred Miles from the Sun, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, and Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance.

2. What are your reading habits?
Most of the time I'll read on my Kindle app on my phone, or I'll grab my Kindle Paperwhite. I recently started reading more physical copies again, and actually prefer reading paperbacks, but I like having hardcover copies on my shelves. I also love having a highlighter and some sticky tabs nearby in case I come across a quote or passage I love (and yes, both will be color coordinated with the book cover).

3. What's the first book that made you fall in love with reading and why?
I didn't really fall in love with reading until college when I read some Nora Roberts and Sandra Brown books. I like the mix of romance and suspense, and was totally hooked.

4. Favorite genres and why?
I love reading romance, especially over the past year. YA fantasy is also one of my favorites when I'm looking for an escape.

5. Favorite Literary League pick and why?
I think my favorite pick so far has been The Vanishing Half. The writing and the characters were so beautiful, and our discussion on it ended up being close to two hours long because we couldn't stop talking about it.

6. What has been your favorite part about being a chapter host?
My favorite part of being a host has definitely been meeting a new group of people and being able to chat about books with them.

7. What are you currently reading?
I'm currently making my way through Plain Bad Heroines, which is a gothic horror about an abandoned, private, all girls school on the East Coast.
